As mental health workers, the last year has added a profound dimension to our work. A global pandemic disrupted the lives of our clients as well as our own. Systemic oppression and white supremacy invited deep reflection on antiracism practices. The political climate and threat to our democracy increased polarization. Here in Oregon we lived the real impact of a climate in crisis with devastating wildfires and an ice storm. In a profession where we are always navigating the challenges of wholeheartedly showing up for clients and our own self care, we have all experienced immense challenge.
I invite you to spend a day beginning to unravel the impact of this challenging year on your practice.
What have been the benefits and challenges about providing services remotely?
How have we supported clients when our own nervous systems are dysregulated by shared stressors?
What have we learned about self care and adaptive resiliency?
What changes will we make in how we provide services in the future?
